The 7.0 SR earthquakes hit North Lombok, 5th August 2018. The crisis team is currently closely monitoring airports and airlines’ schedules to manage the significant traffic changes.

“I am monitoring the demands of tourists to fly out of Lombok and Bali through the airports and airlines, in Lombok and Bali. Our team Judi Rifajantoro and Robert Waloni are preparing additional aircrafts and extra flights, as well as enabling the slots for these new flights from and to Lombok and Bali.” Arif Yahya explains on Monday morning 6th August 2018, 9:00 Jakarta time.

Arief Yahya appeals for support from all the management team of foreign airlines to give priority and fastest service to the passengers who want to change itinerary, try to reroute or get their tickets reissued. “Please support their needs and waive penalties.” Arief says. “This is an unusual situation, those travellers would not have asked for schedule changes if it was not because of the natural disaster. “ he continues.

National airlines are also preparing extra flights, including Garuda Indonesia which has dedicated 4-6 extra flights to support the crisis management. “We are doing traffic monitoring from the affected areas to Jakarta as well as overseas.” says Judi Rifajantoro, Special Staff of Access & Infrastructures for Ministry of Tourism.

“Lombok Praya and Lombok International Airports are giving prime service to the passengers. Lombok Praya is even open 24 hours now to anticipate any needs including extra flights to overseas.” says Robert Waloni, Expert Staff of Access & Infrastructures for Ministry of Tourism.

Arief Yahya ensures that he and his team will not try to cover the real current situation on the affected sites from public. Instead, he and the team are focusing on monitoring and managing Access, Amenities and Attractions (3A). Access includes Airlines, Airports and Authority, which are the main concerns of tourists in an emergency situation. “And those are the top priorities we focus on.” says Arief Yahya.

Wonderful Indonesia co-branding partners are also showing their supports and sympathy. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) offers speedy recovery program for the affected areas which was immediately followed up by Guntur Sakti, the head of Tourism Crisis Management. “That’s terrific, considering Lombok and Bali are the most popular tourism destinations.” Minister Arief Yahya says.
